Ginny Ganong Nichols photographic work takes several forms. I love the B/W image and my B/W photographs are traditionally photographed using a film based Nikon with infared B/W film to give my B/W imagery its special grainy quality. Each is handprinted using traditional darkroom techniques. They are printed in a limited edition and matted using archival 100% rag museum board.
Loving the creative process I also use two alternaltive photographic techniques to give my imagery its originallity an to create an image that is more like a painting then a photograph. Each image is unique and will never look exactly like the next and by fusing many media the process poses no creative limits.
Ginny Ganong Nichols original painted B/W works are B/W images handprinted traditonally from negatives in the darkroom and then painted using opague and transluscent oils to give them a painterly quality mixing reality and fantasy. Each original image is a 16x20 or 20x24 print and then handpainted with oils. It is signed, titled and matted using archival 100% rag museum board. Each image is also sold as a print signed and matted in 5x7 and 8x10 sizes.
Ginny Ganong Nichols original polaroid transfers are photographic images that are transfered to watercolor paper and hand painted with pastels, pencils and inks. The Polaraoid transfer process is done by projeccting the image and rephotograhing it onto 8x10 polaroid. I peel the film apart before it fully processes and I set the positive aside and retain the dye-containing negative for transferring. I then place the negative onto watercolor paper and using a breyer roller I apply even pressure to the image. This produces a fully rendered image that possess a wonderful softness that gives the image a painterly effect. After this step is complete I rework the image with handpainting using pastels, pencils, and inks. The originals come in 8x10 and are signed, titled and matted using archival 100% rag museum board.
Ginny Ganong Nichols is now creating a body of original oil paintings on canvas. Many of these are inspired by her photographic images from all her travels in this country and abroad. I first sketch the image onto the canvas with black to grey oils and underpaint using shadows as my guide. After this step is complete I build the canvas using both brush and the palate knife to give my paintings their impresionistic quallity. All are sold as originals.
All my work involves my love of travel and the inspiration that it brings to me. Hopefully, your purchase will bring you the joy that it has brought to me.
